Richmond Townhouses

Location: Richmond, Nelson, NZ
Stage: Concept, 2021

The design of these townhouses originated from the client’s vision to develop their current site in a way that gently intensifies it (three houses instead of a single one) without imposing more height in this quiet low-rise neighbourhood of Richmond. Each townhouse has 3 bedrooms, an office space, open plan living/dining/kitchen and generous outdoor private areas. Privacy and natural light are controlled by a slight shift in alignment as well as the use of large sliders.  

We accommodated the client’s wish to include double garages but proposed to integrate them in a way that allows occupants to use them as an additional bedroom/office/studio by connecting them to the main floorplan, allowing natural light and ventilation.  

The landscape includes rainwater gardens, storm-detention tanks and native planting.
